Emily Haddad’s THE EGG TIMER

We saw a great opportunity to support local independent film when IFP approached us to contribute to their Fresh Filmmaker Production Grant in memory of Dennis O’Rourke. Denny was a friend to the regional production community and owner of Cine Sound 2 for over 30 years.

The grant facilitates the production of a short narrative film directed by a local filmmaker who has been making films for no more than five years by providing mentorship, $1,000 stipend and logistical support (camera, lights, post facilities). We gave post-production support for 2008 winner Emily Haddad on her narrative, The Egg Timer. Shot on RED, we provided credits, color correction, 5.1 surround sound mix, online finishing and DVD authoring.

Haddad met with the Splice team at the pre-production phase to become educated on the post process and begin creative collaboration. Haddad and DP Greg Winter worked with colorist Michael Sandness to determine the look they wanted to achieve.

“When the production team and the post team are on the same page from the beginning, it makes the process so much smoother and the final product that much better”, said Sandness.

“Splice did a great job of educating me on the process”, said Haddad. “Things like organizing your media so it easily flows into a post facility, allowing them to focus on the creative work. I was amazed how much a film can improve in post”. Haddad will be applying that knowledge to her next film Artist in the Margin, a documentary short funded in part by a Jerome grant she recently won.

The Egg Timer has recently started the 2010 festival circuit and is currently being featured at: the Women’s Caucus for Art International Short Film Festival, the Midwest Independent Film Festival, the Los Angeles Women’s International Film Festival, the Wisconsin Film Festival, and locally at the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival on April 22. Sarah Jean Kruchowski is the winner of the 2009 Fresh Filmmaker grant for her screenplay Jerry Shnydler and the Happiness Well. CRASH+SUES will be contributing post-production services. Splice wishes Kruchowski and the entire 2009 vendor participants and mentors great success.
